About DCP

LOCATION
Our home water is the Conwy estuary and Conwy harbour in North Wales. You don't get a much more beautiful place to paddle!

ORIGINS AND PHILOSOPHY
Dyffryn Conwy Paddlers was founded in October 1991 to encourage the development of flat water paddling, both touring and racing, in the Conwy area. Members also enjoy other types of canoeing including sea and wild water paddling.
The club normally uses open cockpit kayaks and canoes, thus avoiding the need for capsize training, unless members want to pursue disciplines where this is appropriate.
The type of canoeing we are promoting is suitable for people of all ages and levels of ability, however we are currently not able to supervise unaccompanied children, so you youngsters will have to nag your parents to come canoeing as well (they may well enjoy it, quite a few canoeists start this way).

EQUIPMENT
The club owns a wide range of equipment - open canoes, open cockpit kayaks (singles and doubles), wild water racers, paddles, spray decks and buoyancy aids. The kayaks include stable boats for novices and faster boats up to full racing K1s for more practised paddlers. Most members start by using club equipment, then acquire their own as their skill and confidence increases.

PADDLING ACTIVITIES
Many members are recreational paddlers who enjoy a relaxed, stress-free paddle, looking at the wildlife. Others take part in the competitive disciplines of marathon, sprint and wild water racing, and several members have been selected to represent Wales or Great Britain. Touring on the sea and rivers is also enjoyed by many.
Friday evening time trials are run throughout in the summer, for those wishing to improve their speed. The club participates in regional races on many weekends, both in Wales and further afield and organises other events both for training and for enjoyment. Training events include technique coaching, sprint trials and fitness work, while the fun events include canoe orienteering, a river quiz and barbeques by the water. Each year the club organises the nationally known Conwy Ascent race and tour from Conwy Morfa to Dolgarrog.

REGULAR MEETINGS
The regular club meets are on Tuesday and Friday evenings at 6.45pm and on alternate Saturdays from the Morfa Bach car park In summer new paddlers are welcome at the Tuesday and Saturday sessions. Friday is reserved for time trials although experienced paddlers may also hold a recreational session. In winter there are fewer people paddling so that new members can only be catered for by previous arrangement.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
The club holds various social gatherings throughout the year in addition to the recreational paddling events mentioned above.
